The Translation Workshop is designed for students to practise interpreting and undertake collaborative projects. With a language lab system, the workshop allows instructors to broadcast multimedia materials and record students’ interpretation. Preloaded with training materials, the system also enables students’ self-practice in interpreting. When receiving training in computer-aided translation, students can translate a piece of text side by side, and simultaneously access to and update a shared glossary. In business news translation classes, the workshop, with desktop publishing software installed, turns into a newsroom, where students can work on a mini-newspaper project in groups and submit their work after class.
